This photo was taken at Art Kibbutz' Sh'mitaFest on Governor's Island this summer.
Art Kibbutz is an international Jewish artist residency, community and hub. Its mission is to foster global arts conversation and exchange among artists of exceptional talent in an inspiring and peaceful space to work, learn and seriously explore the rich heritage of Jewish experience that informs their creative process.
The Sabbatical year (Sh'mita, literally "release") is the seventh year of the seven-year agricultural cycle mandated by the Bible for the Land of Israel. During Sh'mita, the land is left to lie fallow and all agricultural activity, including plowing, planting, pruning and harvesting, is forbidden.
The art work depicted was created by Noaj Sauer.
