Black Vulture

Standing on the Rail

by Sange

Black Vultures have sooty black plumage, a bare black head, and neat white stars under the wingtips. They are almost dapper compared to Turkey Vultures. Black Vultures are compact birds with broad wings, short tails, and powerful wing beats. The two species often associate with one another because Black Vulture have a poor sense of smell. By following Turkey Vultures to carcasses they get to eat what was found. Highly social birds with fierce family loyalty, Black Vultures share food with relatives, feeding young for months after they've fledged.
All manual settings/handheld/Kelvin Scale for white balance control/taken after a rain storm, so his feathers are wet. He was cold from the temps being at 30 with the wind.
