Fly Your Flag

The night is dark and I am caught
In a storm and my thoughts are fraught
With despair till I spy up high,
Against the dark and gloomy sky,
A flag, by the storm, torn and thinned,
Streaming boldly against the wind.
The torch of Liberty it bears,
Blazing bright through the rents and tears.
Next to it, Justice and her scales
In balance sit as the flag sails
Through the gale with the dove of Peace,
Battered and bruised but in one piece.
And on that flag much more I see
Through the dark to fill me with glee.
So fly your flag, though torn and thinned;
It streams boldly against the wind,
So eyes dimmed by despair may see
Like mine that night and swell with glee.
