A piece inspired by the quiet of mid winter

Unknowing form: Mid Winter

This piece was inspired by the long mid winter nights in and around the winter solstice. I love this time of year, especially stepping outside after a fresh snow in the moon light. There is a magic and crispness in the air and the forests seems alive with unknown forms, creatures and spirits. The quote below was something I came across whilst creating this piece and it speaks to it quite nicely. "The winter solstice has always been special to me as a barren darkness that gives birth to a verdant future beyond imagination, a time of pain and withdrawal that produces something joyfully inconceivable, like a monarch butterfly masterfully extracting itself from the confines of its cocoon, bursting forth into unexpected glory."
