Set to work at a young age!

Working By Lamplight

by El-mundo

I have been meaning to post this for some time now and finally got round to it. This for me is one of the best photographs I have ever taken, and accidentally created a very bizarre and unexpected false scene, or at least a scene I could immediately visually compare and relate to something in the human world.

This is a day or so old Money Spider, so small (0.2cm maybe? barely visible anyway) my macro lens just couldn't focus properly on it, hence the poor clarity. But I don't care about that, I feel I got enough of this tiniest of creatures, dangling from at the time from an invisible thread of web, under the rust on my garden table. I took some pictures of this along with a load of others and it's newly hatched siblings, but this photo struck me as a beautiful throwback to years gone by, as it looks like a miner, using an old fashioned lamp of some type, doing his work dangerously hanging from a cliff - I have no idea what the lamp is or how it was illuminated, I couldn't even see it in the torchlight I shot this picture in.

The rust looks cave or earth like, and it made me think, very bizarrely, that we used to send our children down mines when they could barely walk, and this looked like a staged spider version being played out in the same way. It still fascinates me to this day and one of my top 3 personal favourites of all time, I hope you understand my logic and enjoy :)
