Approximately 5 miles from my place is the beautiful Caspian Lake. Crystal clear and spring fed it is the sole reason the population here goes from just under 700 year round residents to tens of thousands during the summer months.

Although it's perimeter is completely covered w/ what the 'summer people' call 'cottages' a small area WAS carved out for a public beach.....for swimming in the ice cold waters during the summer and ice fishing in the winter.
