From time to time I will do multiple paintings at the same time. Some concepts just cannot be confined to a single painting. So, I create an album so to speak to give a visual walkthrough giving the viewer an experience of being there by seeing multiple and different scenes of the area being displayed. This is painting number two of the six paintings that it took me almost two years to complete. They are pallet knife, brush and paper towel oil paintings on canvas. The background of the sky is done with titanium white applied with a medium sized pallet knife. Color is added in various intensities with a blotting action of paper towels. The ground work is done with different shaped small pallet knives. The distant foliage is different sized brush work intertwined with pallet knife work. For now I will keep the secret of how the mountains are finely detailed with multiple colors showing cracks, depressions and shadows. The trees are done with small pallet knives with striking and dragging motions. The major thing that killed the original attempt on these paintings was the source of light was to controlled creating a washed out and boring painting to look at. That was corrected to allow more freedom of where the light could bounce around inside the paintings causing a more interesting scene and allowing for an increase in the overall brilliance and sharp shapes within the paintings. Took a little while to figure that out. Hope those who view this work enjoy it.
Post Type: Traditional Art
Mixed Media: None | So, in the fall of 2016 I put six 16 by 20 inches canvases on my easel board and started painting from images and memories I drew from my mind and experiences. I started with the sky then moved to the land background then into the middle ground finishing the paintings with the foreground. When they had dried I studied them. They stank. The colors were bland the forms were indistinct. Even the sky was nondescript. I put them away and from time to time looked at them and pondered on what went wrong. In December 2017 I finished the six paintings. This is painting number two. I solved my problems. I am now pleased with them.
