Magnolias are an ancient plant genus which includes about 210 species. It is older than bees and specialized to be pollinated by beetles. Fossils dating back 95 million years.
Magnolia grandiflora, also known as Southern Magnolia and Bull Bay is a large tree. The tree is worldwide cultivated and used as ornamental plant. Its natural range in the Southern United States reaches from Virginia south to central Florida and west to Texas and Oklahoma.
