The Monarch butterfly ranks among the most famous butterflies of the Americas. It is summer guest of southern Canada and the northern USA and migrates in winter to more hospitable climates of the southern US and Mexico. The flower is native to the southern US and northern Mexico, but was also introduced to the northern US and Canada, parts of Central- and South America, South Africa and China, where it got naturalized in scattered locations.
The flower got introduced to natural gardens for its attraction to bees and butterflies.
