Graphic image of worker in a Mine

Working in the Mine

by ArtistCharles

JULY 2018 Open Challenge Contest Entry
Taken on July 24, 2018, this is an adaptation of a sculpture by Alan Cottrill modified down to a study in shape and form, positive and negative space to create a graphic image of what it might be like working in a dark mine. Processed in LR and PS to bring the image down in details. Final art filter was a threshold filter that took it into the pure black and white graphic.
Post Type: Mixed Media Photography
Mixed Media: Major Adapted from a sculpture by Alan Cottril, I wanted to create a piece that captured the feel of working in the mines in practically complete darkness. A study in positive and negative space. Beginning with a photograph I worked the piece down to just elements of the reflected light giving the basic shape of the image on a black field. Processed in LR and PS I pulled the shot down and cropped it then took it into black and white using the threshold tool. Increased the frame size to provide more space. Toned down the white slightly.
