The Algarve area of Portugal has many clam, mussel and oyster farms on the sandbanks that run between the barrier islands. The local people have all clammed. At low tide mostly the woman.. all ages... are seen going out to the emerged sandbanks, all seasons, with their tools and little baskets. They return to the village and sell on the baby clams etc to the farmers who bring them to the farms and they are tended until market time. Here we have a grandmother with her little granddaughter, intensely watching and copying. ~Its a serious matter.
