Fawn in alfalfa

Goodbye,Sweetheart

Some of you may have viewed other postings of this little guy,one of him sleeping in the alfalfa, another of it eating from a can of corn being held by my husband.I named him Bambi. Our biggest concern was that he was small, and he did not have the layer of body fat that the other fawns had,in fact, you could just see the outline of his ribs. We made sure anytime we saw him that we would take out corn for him to eat, especially when we fed the other deer, standing over him to ensure he got as much as he wanted until he walked away before dumping it for the others. Unfortunately the temps started to dip last week, the last time we saw Bambi was last Friday night, when my husband took an extra helping of corn out to him,and stayed there until he was done eating. We noticed then that he wasn?t doing well,so we weren?t surprised when we didn?t see him on Saturday, and by Sunday we knew he was gone. I found his little body up in the woods above our pond on Monday. At least now he is well and happy, running through green fields under a brilliant blue sky full of golden sunlight. I miss my little Bambi very much.... This is one of the last photos I took of him, edited out a minor distraction, adjusted color.
