While at the grocery store, I saw some beautiful primroses and maroon lenten rose plants. This started as a picture of the lenten rose at the store. I'd never heard of a lenten, but it reminded me of the white Cherokee Rose, the state flower of Georgia, as tribute of the Cherokee Tribe when the entire tribe was forcefully removed off their land when the state discovered gold. Many Cherokee tribe members died as they made their way (mostly on foot) to new land. Many tears were shed along the way. The surviving tribe members founded their new (and currently) official reservation in the state of Oklahoma. The trail in which they traveled is known as The Trail of Tears. In the official Cherokee language, the direct translation is :"The trail where they cried." Years later, a white flower with a large golden stamen began growing along the trail. It was said to represent a place where a Cherokee woman's tears had fallen when her child died due to starvation, illness or the elements. Georgia has since adopted that flower as their state flower. The Cherokee rose, does not resemble a traditional rose, but it does look like the lenten rose, which also looks nothing like a rose. They are a perennial and come in a variety of colors, including white.

Mixed Media: Maximum I took a picture of a Lenten Rose plant, cropped one flower from the pic, then used 3 different editing sites to use variable filters, and overlays, and adjusting each to size, placement and color to my liking.
