A trip out into the mountainous area of Portugal we passed through a huge area that was devastated by fires last year that raged for weeks and weeks. It is springtime and amazingly the black charcoal trunks are bursting with fresh green and the charred ground with grass and spring flowers. This scene is at the road side and you can see the melted street lamp. I decided to invert the colours of the photograph to represent the greenery bursting forth against the red sky depicting the raging flames that tried but failed to demolish nature's carpet.
