When I think of the color yellow I immediately think of sunflowers. So, I thought I would try to create a scene that contains them. For this piece I uses Arches 140lb. Cold press paper. I sketched out the trio of flowers and their leaves. I then masked out my areas I wanted white or to have a light highlight. I used several washes of violet, cerulean blue, and Prussian blue for the background. Once dry I placed my pale yellow highlights on the flowers and leaves and a light wash of cerulean on the leaves where I wanted a deeper reflection of light. I then continued to glaze my greens and yellows in layers allowing each to dry between glazes. I am still struggling to achieve the effects I want but I learn something new each time.
