A restored WWII Bomber

Low Level Fly-By

Action Photo Contest Contest Entry
Here's a photo that was taken at an airshow in western New York state about a decade ago. It shows the WWII vintage Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress heavy bomber that was named 'Liberty Belle' making a low level pass over the air field. ( 'Liberty Belle' doesn't fly anymore though! In June of 2011,while flying back to her 'home base' in California after performing in an airshow near Chicago, she developed a serious fire in her left wing and her pilot & owner made an emergency crash landing in a muddy Illinois corn field where she broke up and burned more-or-less completely! Her flight crew of seven people escaped the wreck unharmed and I've heard that at least one of her salvaged engines and many of her rare small parts are being used in the restoration of another flying B-17 bomber!
