One of my favorite, colorful birds was wading in the canal, looking for small fish to catch. This is one of our "locals" the Tricolored Heron. Often mistaken for a Little Blue Heron, they are easily distinguished by the white line of feathers that run down its long neck. Our canal has brackish water, a mix of fresh and salt water, so a large number of fish and birds live here. For the most part, the birds all seem to be used to people, and especially me (according to the neighbors - they all complain that all the wildlife comes to me...LOL), since I spend a lot of time outdoors either photographing them or working in my garden.
