Mixed Media Photograph of the Month Contest Entry
Way back when I found an unidentified caterpillar after a windstorm in Autumn. The caterpillar was getting ready to change so I brought it in the house and put it in a terrarium. I added a leaf and the caterpillar enclosed itself in the leaf with silk. I have an unheated porch so I let him spend the winter there. In the Spring a moth came forth from the leaf. It was this Luna Moth, the first I'd ever seen. This is one of the photos I took before releasing him. I'm calling this a faux Luna because of the work I did with the image. MY image was not in perfect focus so I did my best to create a mixed media and bring the Luna to life. and get the colors right. They may be off slightly. The image was taken with a 35 mm camera. The Luna is a beautiful moth colored minty green and has a rim of purple or violet around the rim of its wings. It has long tails on it's wing. Both Male and Female have feathered antennae with the males being larger. I'm guessing their wing span is approximately 4". The body is white and has a band of purple just below the head with legs of the same color. I hope you enjoy my version of this lovely moth. Thank you so much for stopping by to view! :o) Helvi
