Foxy Lady

The red fox is the most wide spread carnivore in the world. It is very well skilled at adapting to just about any environment. They have adapted so well that they successfully thrive in close proximity to us even though their pelts were highly prized at one time. (Thankfully not now.)

On rare occasions, most often during wintertime, I have a sly red fox dart through the wetland behind my home. I refer to this fox as sly as its timing always seems to coincide with when I am behind the computer and not behind the camera.

This fox has uncanny instincts not only with regard to timing, but also where to position itself to capture an unsuspecting rodent feeding under my bird feeders, but also hidden where it cannot be captured by the camera. For me it is frustrating and challenging at the same time!

Fortunately, on one of my trips to northern Montana, I was able to observe and photograph a Vixen and her kits. It was fascinating to watch these two kits frolic and run while Mom took the high ground to ensure that no one was approaching.

Even more fortunately, I was out with the camera and not stuck behind a computer this time. Now who is the sly one!
