I had a blind commission to produce a very large canvas in oils of an indecisive abstract sort of picture that my daughter had seen in a magazine. She wanted something similar but of course I could not copy someone else's work so I decided an arrangement and colour scheme similar but would imitate grapes on a vine. This is one of my early practice sketches of grapes, their leaves, how they grow. I made notes of shades and shadow, and colour variations ; my other daughter took a liking to this and framed the rough work. I have to say, framed it looks kind of funky.
