Photograph of the Month Contest Entry
The hot pools of Yellowstone Park are a wonder to behold. Like a distant planet, organisms exist that live in a very hostile environment. The many colors are made of millions of Thermophiles, heat loving bacteria. The temperature of the water determines the color of the thermophile. Thermophiles thrive at relatively high temperatures, between 41 and 122 °C (106 and 252 °F).
