an old trail

~ Distant Light ~

Photograph of the Month Contest Winner
We're looking down a trail that once served as a wagon path which local farmers used to bring their harvests to commercial canal boats operating on the old Champlain Canal where they'd be shipped to merchants all over western and downstate New York. It became less and less popular after the Railroads came into common use for transporting goods in the 1840s. ( Now it's just part of a 'historic hiking trail' ! At least it's well kept up! It was Very overgrown and more-or-less just an unauthorized garbage dump when I was a child! )
