taken as always in Botswana from an open landrover; we were close to the elephants taking a bath in the river when suddenly they started to get out, probably spotting a crocodile in distance. Since it was already to late for the driver to turn around and leave, a lady started to panic; finally, when they were only a few meters away, they turned around the vehicle and left the area.; The driver-guide explained later that if we move the car, the elephants may be frighten and attack the car. Another circumstance would have been if one of them witnessed a hunter killing an elephant; they have an excellent memory: fortunately, hunting is strictely forbidden in Botswana.
