1/32 soldier

Macro Photos Contest Entry 
I created this photo by placing a model soldier, in the ice box of my fridge and then just adding a snow type map over the image. The German trooper is 1/32 scale. So much smaller that in picture (2 thirds less).


He is approaching Stalingrad, in authentic winter clothing. The Russian winter could drop to temps of -40 degrees. If you touched metal with your bare hands it would tear the skin off! The German army not only froze (and starved) to death but also and more importantly had to dissgard 50% of their weapons (during the winter months). Out of the 5.3 million deaths suffered by the German Military during WW2, at least 85% (or 5 out of 6 soldiers) perished fighting on the Eastern Front.
