This is a European Starling in North America. All the starlings here are descendants from 100 birds brought from Europe and released in the early 1890's by amateur ornithologist, and pharmacist by trade, Eugene Schieffelin. He and his group: The American Acclimatization Society wanted America to have all the birds that Shakespeare ever mentioned. Thirty years later he sponsored the introduction of the House Sparrow to America from Europe.

In 1890 he released 60 starlings in Central Park in New York, and another 40 in 1891.
There are now more than 200 million European Starlings across North America.
