I enjoy using soft pastels in my artwork. I think this is because I can really get my hands and fingers into the work blending the pastels. This allows me to feel connected in a real sense to my art. For this drawing, I worked from a photograph placing the highlights and the shadows first and then all the values in between. I believe blending the pastel is most important when doing the human figure to represent the texture of the skin. My hope is that I capture all the subtleties and details in the subject matter a realistic presentation and a three dimensional quality to the figure.
