The story behind the Francis and Clarence piece of artwork

This is a commission piece I did for a fellow artists, who believes and has told me and many others, my pigeon artwork is the best she has ever seen. A very high compliment from her, because she is accomplished artist who has pieces hanging in the new 49?rs stadium. She is also the one responsible for my drawing becoming a part of the American Pigeon Museum and Library, collection, located in Oklahoma city.
Here are two of her birds, that she wanted me to drawing using color pencils; they are both fantails, Francis the black one died about 2 years ago. Clarence was given to her a squeaker after Francis?s death; Francis was also given to her as a squeaker as well. She took over for their parents and finished raising them. Their personalities are exact opposites; Francis was calm most of the time, unless he did not like you, while Clarence has a definite attitude, which says I am the is the boss.
If Francis did not like you, he would chase you. The story my friend loves to tell is how Francis chased one of her friends out of the house because of a disparaging comment she made about Francis having free rain in her house.
My friend was overjoyed with this drawing saying, how; I picked up both birds personality in the drawing. She wanted a drawing where both of the birds were in it together, even though they never met each other. Doing a drawing of any ones pet is difficult, but when it deals with a deceased pet, it becomes even more difficult, because of the emotional aspect associated by the request. In addition, my desire always is to give them the best rendering of their pet I can possibly do.
