Great Blue Heron

Living on a canal, somewhat in the jungle, really has its benefits. I love to watch the herons "fishing." This Great Blue patiently stood by the shoreline for a very long time (as did I...LOL) waiting for just the right moment to snag himself a Mullet from our brackish waters. It amazes me all the prep work they go through until actual consumption. Flipping it back and forth and up and down, until the fish is not only dead, but in the right position for the heron to swallow it whole. Watching it go down their long throat/neck without choking is miraculous. It is quite a show from start to finish. Taken with my Canon EOS 60D. No flash, no tripod.
