Flowers - Art Contest Entry
How does a Butterfly select that just one flower? Have you ever pondered this? Is it by beauty and sight? Is it by scent? Is it that untouched flower? Is it the flower many have perched on before? I asked Siri on my phone. It took a while and wish I never asked. There are too many answers. What I found out mainly is this ..... Butterflies like flowers in the sun and no wind. They are Ectotherms. This means they cannot regulate their body temperature. They rely on the energy of the sun to warm their body and keep it functioning. They cannot fly in temps below 55 degrees. So when you see a Butterfly with outstretched wings, perched on a flower they are just warming up their muscles to fly. So they chose a flower if tired, cold or they need nectar to eat. Bet you knew this all along but I am happy you read to the end. Have a beautiful day and I hope you see a Butterfly on a Beautiful flower.
