This is a painting of an old folk artist playing Sarangi in his traditional head gear.Sarangi is short necked fiddle used through out South Asia particularly for folk and classical Hindustani music. The musician who is seated normally holds the instrument against his left shoulder in a vertical position and plays with an arched bow held in an underhand grip in his right hand. The cuticle of his left hand are pressed against the string to sound specific pitches.Sarangi is a bowed instrument opposite to that of violin which is bowed in inverted position.....enjoy the painting
