I did this painting as an emotional release to deal with the facts that she is gone and that I had to sign the paperwork to remove my wife from life support machines in the hospital to honor her desire not to have to live totally dependent on life support. She died just under 24 hours later. I had a vague notion of what I wanted it to look like and the color scheme I wanted in the painting. I then let the painting talk to me. I fell into the "zone" quickly and stayed in it for close to nine hours. I finished it at two in the morning and felt good be exhausted. It is a pallet knife abstract oil painting done with various sized pallet knives. I chose to do it as a large painting to make it powerful, almost overwhelming to look at, and it is. The use of the pallet knives gives it texture and depth with the different stroke directions. The left side of the painting has a wave effect movement produced by the knives. The center is more like a splashing staccato of white and light colors while the right side moves with non directional cross current colors. I am pleased with this work on many levels. I hope it also pleases those who view it.
Post Type: Traditional Art
Mixed Media: None | This is a pallet knife abstract 36X48 inches painting took almost nine hours to finish, I worked continuously until it was finished. It was finished about 2:00 a.m. I actually enjoyed being worn out at the finish.
