Welcome to the entrance from the ferry bridge to Ilha da Culatra an island totally of sand. No soil, no clay, but things grow here and man arrived on it and built their houses and a church. They laid a giant anchor from one of their discovery ships as a reminder of their history. This is placed over an old tiled square where once a building stood. The first village was a leper colony. People who had that dreadful disease were isolated here and from that a fishing village developed and oyster and clam farms.
