Faith Art Contest Contest Entry
(Note: Same as my short version so it can be entered only one time. Thanks.) My original oil painting on canvas was a commission. Unable to photograph the work in detail by a simple snapshot, I changed the painting by redrawing Christ and scanning both characters into Photoshop. I made minor changes and additions. During a storm while Peter and several of the disciples were in a ship, headed for the other side of the sea as Christ had instructed, while He went alone into the mountain and prayed. Jesus Christ suddenly appeared, walking on the sea. After their initial fright of thinking they were seeing a ghost, they soon recognized the voice of Christ, "?It is I, be not afraid." As faith swelled within him, Peter asked if He were Christ to bid him come to Him on the water. "Come," the Lord invited. Peter immediately ascended from the ship and began to walk on the water to Jesus. But when Peter looked away from Christ and at the fierce wind and water, he began to sink. Peter cried for help. Christ quickly caught Peter with His hand, rescuing him and chastening him for his lack of faith. He?d started, why did he doubt. (Matthew, Chapter 14 (verses: 25-33, complete story; verses 28-32, focus of Peter?s faith and doubt) When we feel overwhelmed by life?s circumstances, let us not be dismayed but look upward by faith, keeping our spiritual eyes on Christ, believing, putting the matter in God?s hands.
