Bug Photo Contest Contest Entry
I photographed this Cow Killer on some Butterfly Weed in my garden. It is really interesting and unique to see. It is the largest species of Velvet Ant in North America, according to Audubon. It was thought that the insect's sting was fatal to cattle, but turned out not to be true. That's how it got its name. Taken with my Canon EOS 60D, f/7.1, 1/400 sec., ISO 100, 0 Step, 135mm, max.ap. 5, no flash, no tripod.
