Bug Photo Contest Contest Entry
This is an image I took last year. I think it was in early September. I was out looking for pictures to take when I noticed these ants on what I think was a young oak tree. I have no idea what the growths are but the ants were very protective of them. I think they were about 1" in diameter. In trying to get close enough to get this shot I was bitten at least 3 times. There must have been some sweet juice in the growths that the ants liked. I saw them in several places on the tree crawling all over them. I was able to get two ants in this shot. Thought it would make an interesting post for the bug contest! Hope you enjoy! Thanks for stopping by! :o) Helvi
........Update..... Annie (avmurray) told me these are oak galls. I looked them up and she was right. Funny how these resemble peaches.
