We had such an amazing and knowlegable guide on our safari that I learnt so much! When I asked him why this elephant was holding his trunk up with his tusk and whether it was perhaps that he'd injured his trunk, the guide told me that an elephant's trunk is extremely heavy and that they find it quite tiring to constantly carry it around so they take a rest from the weight by hanging it over a tusk!
