Faith Art Contest Contest Entry
Traditional Watercolour on Paper.
Size: 12 x 16 inches
This serene portrait captures Saint Mother Teresa in a moment of deep prayer. Painted initially using traditional watercolours, the artwork was later digitally enhanced by Picasa to highlight the softness and spiritual aura of her devotion gently. It reflects the timeless power of faith expressed through humble service.
I have tried to capture the quiet grace in Saint Mother Teresa's face, the peace that came from a lifetime of prayer and faith. This effect was inspired by the idea of faith flowing like water, gentle, continuous, and firm beneath the surface.
Born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Albania in 1910, Mother Teresa, later canonised as Saint Teresa, became a timeless symbol of compassion. As the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, she dedicated her life to serving the poor, the sick, and the abandoned in the slums of Calcutta, India, touching the hearts of people worldwide.
Honoured with awards such as the 1962 Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize and the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, her greatest strength remained hidden: a quiet, unwavering faith. For her, prayer was like breathing; her hands served with love and folded in silent devotion.
This serene image captures that essence, a moment of prayer lit by a lifetime of service. Her faith was not just belief, but the power of love in action, reminding us that even the smallest act done in faith can become a great act of love.
