What is abstract?

<< Thread Modifed February 11 at 9:15PM >>

Please comment and keep in mind art and photography. I am sure this will be a great discussion to clear up many thoughts. Many feel that most art could fall under the category of abstract and I agree. To start, think of a spectrum of art starting with pure reality, something you can see, touch, smell etc. with your senses. Next in line would be a photograph in a captured image in as certain slice of time, the closest thing to reality. Then there is photo realistic art, not real but a fine interpretation of reality. Then come general art including all the isms, fauvism, expressionism, Pointillism, drafting, cartooning, dot paining, land scapes and sea scapes, portraits and sculpture not in any particular order. As we move through the sets things get more and more abstract as we approach purest abstract the color black. The color balck is not a pure color it is a mixture of pure colors. The pure colors are red, blue, yellow and white, colors that can not be produced by mixing other colors. Pointillism uses pure color only. Abstracts as defined, contain Images of color, shapes, images, geometrics with no particular connection. It seems that all art contains a certain degree of abstraction. Artists create illusions and photographers capture and record real images in real time. Feel free to comment and add any thoughts on the subject.
