Firstly thanks for telling story about Hibiscus, which is a several colors beautiful flower. Here is the simplicity of the water with some reflections and the alone Hibiscus. Nice idea and good angle, composition and good photo too. (I don't know yet the flower name :( I'm waiting)

Thank you for your kind review. The flower was blown there i n front of the water. The light came through the tree beautiful.t had to take the picture.
The flower is not a hibiscus as we know it. It comes from the Hibiscus Tree who gets 30 feet tall and about the same in diameter.

Wow. That looks like one of the flowers from our hibiscus tree out front. We have tow, one is yellow and the other like the one in the puddle here. All the way from So. California. I like your colorful composition and the yellow greenish light in the ater is fascinating. Good show. You can keep our flower.

This is a very good abstract type of photo. You got very good lighting conditions in here. The bright color make excellent contrast with the greenish tone of on the wood and water. The reflection in the water is very interesting. Frame is well composed. The dark edge towards the bottom is somewhat a distraction. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your detailed review. You are right, the dark edge is a little bit of an eye sore. Its actually wood what is more rotted then the rest and not touched by the light. I tried to lighten it but it doesn't look good. I have a closer up but I loose to much of the wood or the reflection or /and the shadow of the flower. [The same for cropping]. So I chose the lesser evil [the black area].

Very subtle and accomplished shot of the blown down Hibiscus Tree flower, cleo.
The setting with the rain puddle and the reflections add a nice touch to the mood of the photo while relating the plight of the flower.
I also like the colors that compliment the over all feeling. Also adding to the tormented disaster is the texture from the boardwalk.
I've shot a number of Hibiscus flowers that have struck me as having such a beautiful, large shape and beautiful bloom - but this is the first I've encountered of this nature.
I hesitate getting into a detailed observation as I so often seem to interpret beneath the surface of your photos - but I do like this reflected memory, and the strong feeling I get from it's dejected reflection on the wood which seems to impart an representation of the color it would have turned had it been granted full life.

I didn't need to read your name to know who wrote the review. The interpretation beneath the surface is what I appreciate the most in your reviews. It shows me if I was able to reach out and show more then just the surface.
As Anselm Adams [who's work I admire] said: A photograph is usually looked at - seldom looked into."
I want that people look into my photos. You do exact this. Thank you.
The Hibiscus Tree blossom is different from the Hibiscus we usually see. I will post some wile they are still alive.
-
Thanks, cleo. Beautiful quote from Adams. I hadn't read that before but isn't it so true - we look at photos but seldom, I think, do we really look into them.
I'll be looking forward to seeing some photos of the Hibiscus Tree Blossoms as I'm not sure I know the difference from that of the regular Hibiscus I've usually seen.
Thanks so much.
-
Thanks so much for you Re. Yes that Adams quote it is with me since I first read it. I think that is what made me really looking at pictures to find out what they are about. I think an picture is so much about the subject of the picture [here are photos and paintings alike] as it is about the person what created it. Often it shows the artist more than his subject.
Yes you will see a difference in the blossoms between the tree and the widely known Hibiscus bush. But there is another difference also. The tree gets to 30 feet high and about the same in diameter and the green leaves are completely different.
-
Thanks, cleo. Recently read an article on the subject you've mentioned - about how the photo reflects the personality of the artist even more, often times, more than what the picture itself says. Quite revealing.
Looking forward to the Hibiscus Tree Flowers - never knew of "Hibiscus Trees" until now. Had only associated them with shrubs or small trees.
Many thanks.
-
Thanks for your Re. Were was that article? Maybe I could get it online. I would like to read it. I'll post the flowers soon.
-
Off the top of my head (and that's not always an accurate place to look) B&W Magazine comes to mind. I haven't checked to see if they have a listing of their back issue articles on their website. They do have some nice galleries so I may be able to figure it out from there. But give me a day or two and I'll see if I can find it. Could have been a different magazine entirely - like maybe American Photo - I'll see what I can find and let you know.
-
Thank you so much. But don't go through to much trouble. I will look myself. I just to have American Photo but had to cancel it when it got to complicated to have send it to the Yucatan. I'll look.

What a beautiful shot! I love the color of the bench against the color of the flower. The reflection of the flower is nice, plus the water on the bench is a nice touch. Great use of lighting, nice angle for shot. Really nice job here.

Nicely done with the angle for this shot. Your light and focus and angle is good for this. The presentation is good for this. The red flower stands out well.
