Your efforts certainly paid off as the end result is very creative and stimulates my imagination. I get the sense that the main character is looking down upon whomever used to sit in the chair. Not sure if it a look of sorrow or disdain, but in either case, my mind wants to know more of the story. Use of B & W makes it even more of a mystery. Excellent techniques. You should do well in the contest.

such an excellent art form. Great details and magnificent layers. Great B&W details and intricate design. Nicely blended together and love the look of that chair with vines over it.

Comment from Mara del Mar
Well, this is a sad image, the face is sad, like the chair and the feel of abandonment. The b&w is very effective and the lighting and texture are perfect. Good luck.

Thank you very much for reviewing my picture.
Yes it is very sad, but unfortunately very true. I have seen many elderly people throughout the last year, who were abandoned by their family and cast away into insufficient institutions.
Comment from Alveria
Very poignant photo. Good title. I love the facial expressions of the elderly in this photo which to me speaks to society's (and some families) treatment of these senior citizens. Good choice of black and white, no distractions from the subjects and adds to the poignant message. Great and creative post production work. The text adds interest as well. Nicely framed with great initial impact. Well done.

I have no problems understanding the concept, so in that respect you have not failed at all. I do however think your layering could have been better. It is great notes you present to us, and this makes it easier for a reviewer to see the process behind this creation.
I think making this in BW works well, but I would have liked to see better distinctions between dark and light areas. I appreciate that you wanted the face of the woman to be faded, but think the area with the face could have been darker. I am not so sure the overlay layer of tree bark work so well.
Still What I find most distracting is the area under the chair. I think this creation would have been much better if we had seen the fence behind the chair. I do however like very much the addition of the text.
The way you have done this you have made the chair the focal point. Personally I would have strengthened the portrait of the old woman and made the char more transparent. Still I like the idea, and I can see that you have put a lot of thought and time into this image. I do however think it needs some adjustments. Still I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you very much for your throughout and thoughtful review and your suggestions. Your review has several valid points. I will think about them, but need a little time since some of it would be a reverse of my intentions. I understand your point about the white triangle. It did not occurred to me as distracting. It is not added but a broken piece of the seat showing the stuffing. This were clear to me and I thought it would intensify the garbage view-point. This was evidently only wish full thinking. Somebody else commented on it. I am going to clone the area. Thank you again very much for your help!
-
You are more than welcome C. To be quite honest I did not guess that the white triangle was part of the seat. For me it was just that the white was standing out too much. Now of course it makes sense to me that you kep it like this.
-
I am still going to remover the part, but do not want to change the post while the contest is running. You made a very good point and you are right. When I look now I see its a distraction. Sometimes we see things in or work only because we know what they are, but the viewer does not have the same experience.
