Such a beautiful shot! Thank you for your...biology lesson? The Man O'War does not seem real, but something from a science fiction movie. You capture the beautiful, colorful and delicate structures.

Fantastic capture Fred!
Excellent clarity, crisp details, fab color blue and superb POV.
Found these a over the beach today with ignorant tourists picking them up!
Even dead they can hurt you.
Fine work Fred ;)

thanks a lot again for your great comments;
in contrast to jellyfish, they can hurt after many days on the beach;

I know about the difference between Jelly fish and man of war. I was raised on the Jersey Shore before moving to Florida after college.
It amazes me how people see them on the beach and pick them up!
One guy and his kids were picking the dead ones up thinking they were alive and throwing them back in the ocean. My brother...Informed them to not use their hands..And putting them back in the water...Will not revive them.
We saw a blue fish...Eating them. They have the same color blue.

just back home;
I've seen a Young very athletic surfer complaining about severe pain at the foot and not feeling well;
I told the hotel to call an ambulance because his heart rate was only 60: too low for someone coming out of the water;

Hi Supergold,
Love the image and the information you gave on the Portuguese man 'o war. There was a LOT I didn't know. These pest to beach goers in the Atlantic would not be fun to encounter.
Those these fellows can be dangerous, your image brings out the beauty of this creature of the sea. LOve how you captured the blue and the pink ridge of its sail. It might be just a wee bit out of focus, but the shot is still wonderful and was fun to see and review. :o) Helvi

Hard to believe that such a nice looking organism can be, judging from your notes, so dangerous! Your central composition works very well in presenting it to us. Sharpness and exposure are good, well done!

Very interesting photo of a creature that looks sort of alien. I never saw one before. You framed it beautifully in this photo, as well as captured its unearthly blue color and long deadly tentacles. Thanks for sharing.

Really cool up close shot. It took me a few seconds to understand what's going on here, and the abstraction of it pulls me in. The title definitely helps, and shows how the beauty of nature can be misleading into something dangerous.

A dangerous beauty. Its poison stays alive for several days even outside the water. At the Yucatan the beaches will be closed if there is an investigation of them.
It is a perfect clear short which shows great detail. The colors are realistic. The man-o-war is well positioned providing for a well balanced photo.

I have seen these guys on the beach....and you have captured colors that are very artistic and pleasant to view. A wonderful scientific photo for National Geographic, actually!
And you have maintained a great saturation control in those colors to sustain an excellent detail throughout...including the sand! The reflection on the man o war..that in itself is admirable ...no blow out. Your framing has placed a bit a diagonal and the most of the interest in the upper frame...with vacant space in the bottom to tell the story of the beach.. Perfection as far as I'm concerned. Cyber six...for a scientific success with your camera! Thanks for sharing
