A good entry for the contest. The pelican in the far distance has a great wing span that silhouettes in the background. I like the cloud formations.

A fine entry for the contest. This is a lovely shot of the bird in flight. Shows off well against the blue sky and the clouds! You have framed it well. The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good luck!

nice capture of the clouds and the bird, but the bird is lost on the huge and empty background

also, there is no center of interest in the photo, the bird is too small to be a center of interest

thanks for sharing

Thank you for your honest review and input. Sorry to disappoint you, but this is what the contest rules demand. The subject has to be far away. The center of interest is therefore the bird.

A fantastic shot of this silhouetted pelican spread with it's wings to the max, swooping through the beautiful blue morning sky. Great clarity and wonderful cloud formations behind it make for a classic piece, showing no other distractions - a fantastic artistic shot timed beautifully - great work and a strong contender for the comp - best of luck!! :)

Oh this is the perfect title for this piece and I really like your very descriptive sub-title.

Colors are excellent in your piece and your Pelican DOES look very far away so it's a wonderful entrant for this contest. He looks like he has the entire sky to himself doesn't he!

Best of luck w/ your image in the contest.....your photo makes me wish again how wonderful it would be able to fly...lol

Thank you very much for your encouraging review. I get that wish to fly each time I see a bird high up.

Oh so do I. It makes me laugh when I think about how Freud insisted wishing to fly was a purely sexual thing...lol...silly guy....I think it's just about wanting to soar in the skies! At any rate, YOU are most welcome!!

Freud's interpretation is silly. Being able to fly has more to do with freedom, hence the saying "free as a bird".

ahahaha...I agree....Freud was often silly. I was forced to study him in detail in Grad. school and disagreed w/ him...and the professor frequently!

It was very difficult for me to understand what they wanted in this contest. If you had shot this with a lens that was three or four times longer the bird would be the same distance away but would be proportionately larger and would probably have been disqualified. In any event this one is very nice and I wish you the best in the contest.

Thank you very much for your encouraging review. The effect was indeed intended and the reason why I did not used a "long lens".

This is actually a very good entry for this contest, and I especially like the simplicity and the lovely cloud formations. This photo would not have been the same without them.

The Pelican in flight is standing out really sharp and well defined against the sky, and I also like the light in this photo with the gradient from darker blue on the left to light blue on the right.

I also think the composition is working since the bird is given room to fly into. It is a lovely and well taken photo, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Pretty sky and sure fits the contest. Your pelican is well positioned in the frame with plenty of fly space in front of him. Nicely focused and silhouetted against the clouds. Good luck and well done.
