:):):) This is a wonderful shot of the bird! You have timed it well. The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

Hi Jo thanks for sharing your dear little feather friend, the European Robin. What a fabulous shot you have captured as he stands ready for take off to catch a tasty morsel from your feeder.. lucky little birdie.. Perfect angle used to show off his lovely feathered coat nicely. Love his orange red breast and had feathers.. they give him such character as he stands there in readiness on the post. His upper feathers and his wings are a lovely contrasting hue with that cinnamon tone.. they make him stand out well as they contrast against the creamy yellowish feathers below. That is an interesting little hunch he has on his back ... Perhaps he is just so focused on that feeder, that he is arching himself in anticipation. very cute.. and check out his beady black eye.. so focused on what lies before him. The pole is a nice contrast for his feathers.. it has a rustic feel with what appears to be micro organisms growing on its surface.. Love the background used to make him pop.. it blends in nicely with the colours of your feathered feature taking centre stage.. His little beak tones well with his back feathers.. a very handsome little robin indeed. I hope he enjoys his oncoming feast.. Thanks for sharing your capture.. it has excellent exposure and the lighting is perfect.. such a clear shot and an absolute joy to review .. cheers mel

What a great capture! You can practically feel him getting ready to push off! I love the coloring....our Robins in Minnesota are darker and have red underneath. Very neat and great composition!

Wow!
Perfect timing!
He's really on the verge of taking off!

Sharply focused.
Amusing facial expression.
Almost monochromatic color scheme.

Ideally framed.
Well lit.
Low vantage point.
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.

Thanks for sharing...

Adorable! I hope to see one some day.
Jo, you have fine Exposure/ white balance control, great focus and Sa-wa-eeeeet DOF.
You framed him nicely in the square.
Only tiny thing I notice is focus is sharp on head and eye but a tad soft on body.
I just taught Eileen on Monday during our trip to Wetlands to raise her shutter speeds when shooting birds.
I start at 1/4000sec and go as high as 1/5000sec.
High shutter/ low F/stop it works every time.
Beautiful capture Jo!

Thanks so much sange, yes your right a tad soft on the body, the weather has not been too good here so hard to get high shutter speeds sometimes without the photo suffering
Noise, which I know I can reduce in Photoshop but wanted the soft back ground,
Thanks for your help and advice,
It's nice you have someone to do photography with. Jo.

This is where if you study Kelvin Scale...that is a non issue. I would be at Kelvin temp 5000 color grid on zero. Shutter speed 1/4000sec ISO 500 and EV at zero with my camera.
What do you shoot with ?
reply by the author on 21-Mar-2018
    A Panasonic lumix g80 with a
75 to 300 olympus lens, I will study
Those camera settings, I have a lot
To learn, thanks so much sange.
    Appreciate your help. Jo.

Ok...your camera has Kelvin Scale..you will find in menu under white balance.
Will get back to you on a few changes you should make in camera nenu that will improve wildlife captures

How super cute is this little guy? I just love his body posture and the title that you gave the photo. He does look like he is getting ready to take off. The colors of this photograph are all harmonious and pleasing.

A beautiful bird in very nice lighting. I wish you had sent these over to America rather than those starlings. Great colors and very fine details in an attractive pose.

Thanks so much Mike, you would love these robin's they are friendly but fearless little birds who will actually fight to the death to protect their territory, they will follow you round the garden especially if you are digging , they are great to photograph as they are so cute with the red chest and big eyes. Another well captured cutie. Is it whispering "I think I can," under its breath? Nice color, good sense of movement or impending movement. Sharp focus, especially on the eye. Soft background is good. well done.
