Its a nice capture of a bird most of us will never see in the wild or at a zoo.
They are beautiful birds and you have nice focus , but it could have been sharper especially on the head and crest area. White balance is controlled ok, but due to the suns back lighting the entire outline of the birds body is blown. DOF is nice , but the blur should have been softer. I would clone out the blow out and soften the background.
I am impressed with the eye and the beauty of the red on the bird and flower.
I understand light very well and a shot like this can be taken without blow out if ALL manual settings are used and Kelvin Scale is a must. I would have had a low f/stop and very high shutter speed.
Sorry Fred, I am not joining the crowd here. If I post anything with the slightest of brightness I get called on it.
Also my experience here on far is vertical shots do not show well due to the size requirements.

    thanks a lot Sandra for these detailed and instructive comments; in contrast to others I appreciate very much: therefore I'm here..
    like most very small birds,they are very active: don't stay more than a few seconds in the same place: difficult to capture;
    I'll try to get better ones in the next 7 days when I'm here;

Hey Supergold! I really like this one. The color is awesome. The red plant as well as the greenery give a nice scene for the bird to be in. The birds coloring and details are well captured and presented. The pose of the bird gives the sense of deep thought. Really great photograph here!

A very nice shot. They have a pair in the aviary at the Detroit Zoo, or at least, they did the last time I was there. I have never seen one with his crest so prominently raised. A very nice shot with great colors and a beautiful perch.

The focus is nice and sharp showing clear details throughout the flower and the bird. The colors are vivid and they are natural. Nice composition and well placed in the frame. Camera techniques are spot on.

No, you can't get red wings, you'd ruin the composition !!
A lovely shot of this superb bird and it's strange haircut.
Nicely composed and I like how the red on it's face mirrors the red of that plant.
Nicely sharp and stands out well against the out of focus background.
Well shot.

Good nature image presented here in both bird and flower.
The bulbul is delicately balanced on the lovely red ginger flower. Lovely lighting and bokeh with with the blurred green backdrop as a contrast.
Good clarity and focus. Thanks for sharing.

An excellent nature photo presented here! Your fine, central and traditional composition captures both bird and bloom very well indeed. Like the bird detail and the glowing petals. Exposure and sharpness are spot on. Great photo!

Fred,
A beautiful picture of the Red Whiskered Bulbul on the Red Ginger flower spike the light from behind giving the bird a halo of light around it & the causing the flower spike to glow as the light passes through the red bracts. the soft blurred green-brown in the background making the perfect backdrop. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

This is beautiful photograph that almost looks three dimensional. The clarity is so good I feel like I could reach in and touch the bird and the blossom. I like the way the light plays on the bracts of the bloom.
