I think your title is spot on, that is the impression with this lonely guy ... great shot, nice perspective and placement. Natural colours, focus and light are good. Tones I wayer have come out well and I like the detail not only on the bird but the rock angle is very complimentary.

You have pictured this little green heron so well, and it is posing for you in such a lovely way. I also like how well you have brought out the fine textures in the wooden log. The bird is standing out from the background in an excellent way.
The photo is very sharp and it is clear and well defined details to be see in the feathers of the bird. The all over light is fine, but you have a slight over exposure along the bottom of the photo. Why not just crop it off ?
The cropping is working well, and the bird has got a fine placement off to the right. It is a lovely and well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

What a gorgeous bird standing very alert on the rock. Colors are very natural and your focus on the eye is sharp. Excellent clarity of his plumage. Composition is well balanced.
