This is a lovely classic christmas scene you have created. I dont think it even needs the extras of the animals and wreath. The colors and beautiful and the technique is nice. Its very tranquil to look at. Nicely created.

I like this painting very much. It's different, and adds a lot of quality to the show a long with the other works of art. The trees are really good and show a lot of talent and skill in the branches and snow. The red barn keeps us focus and moving through the painting. It has very nice colors, and is very warm for a cool painting in the winter. Thanks for sharing

A very nice painting that brings to mind the work of Grandma Moses. I like the simplicity of this rural scene and think the colors are fantastic. Best of luck in the contest.

As you know from seeing my drawings, the baby, etc. most of my work is more detailed than Grandma Moses. This one may be a little like hers. I viewed some of her work but up till now had only seen flat painting. It is amazing that she could d what she did at an advanced age, in serious art. But my work, I do best of all in detailed drawing, am learning more and more in painting from life. I have drawn and colored all of my life, my sister and I. And, copies or replicas I've been blessed to do exact. I am just now wishing to expose my work although I've been invited to have several showings, invited and drew portraits at a school when in my 20s and later at a festival. The photograph of this oil painting doesn't do the wet-on-wet justice, as far as the depth in the show and path, in particular. But thanks, and for you best wishes. I sure need them.

I love the subtle use of gentle colours in the composition. Only the barn has red which stands out- rest all are done so softly. It's such a captivating rural landscape you created incorporating the key Christmas elements particularly the snow. I find this very classy and full of soothing charm. I also find the minimalist approach in this artwork highly impressive!! Six stars for this brilliant artwork and best wishes for the contest

Thank you, thank you, Freelo59. I looked at several works you did so well too. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year with safety and prosperity.

Even though modern digital applications were combined with traditional techniques the subject matter and the style in which it is depicted qualifies this pleasing piece as folk art - that is not a bad thing. What caught my attention was the roof angles of the buildings the near barren trees and your depiction of snow - all rang familiar. I did a little research and are you familiar with Anna Mary Robertson Moses (September 7, 1860 â?" December 13, 1961), or Grandma Moses, she was an American folk artist of high regard. You may disagree but I think this piece, at least, is very much in her style. As for myself I think you should continue in this vain and make it yours ... Bob P B-))

Thank you kindly and for your advice. I painted the scene with oils on a 16" by 20". In life it looked very realistic, specially the path, posts, barn and bush. I sold it and the family had a fire. I had made a copy with a point and shoot camera. Then I brought into Photoshop to resize to the original size and later after adding the post, wreath. small animals, and a little snow on the front trees. I am not familiar with Anna Mary Robertson Moses but the work I saw by Grandma Moses was flat, unrealistic, and I doubt she has ever used any of the software tools. Look at my profile and see my drawing ability which I have done far more than painting. I was told in college by Professor Dean that I was the best copyist in that year or that he'd probably ever had. But that's because my sister and I had drawn and colored mostly from imagination or looking at items. Then I learned to draw and paint from life in college and have been invited to have showings, enter my work in other institutions but I never had time to get enough together as I was too busy taking classes, traveling, writing, ministering, in the midst of SLE that came, partly from going so much. So, I'm just now endeavoring to get my work out, to draw more, and paint as I can. I purposely desired to make this scene even more realistic/photogenic with the little bit I did on the trees, adding the post and wreath, animals. I have two illustrations due for my son?s and my novel soon. But I wished to spend more time with getting my art exposed, as able physically. Thanks again. But, to say my art is anything like what I saw of Grandma Moses is insulting. Just look at my portfolio, please. I need to improve on shadows, haven't worked a lot with trees but I am learning. When I painted in the day, we didn't do it in layers. I've learned layers in painting in the last 3 years, and especially with colored pencils, and have just gone back to painting with oil pastels and acrylic. I hope to do a book of my replicas of "The Master's Works" I drew in my sketch book. They are exact, no tracing, little measuring, etc. Although I?ve taken hundreds, probably thousands of pictures, I have never used settings, etc. My Canon is on the blink. I know I am more an artist in drawing, doing more painting and tweaking, than a photographer.

I hope to upload a book of my replicas of "The Master's Works" I drew in my sketch book. Although I?ve taken hundreds, probably thousands of pictures I have never used settings, etc. My Canon is on the blink. I know I am more an artist in drawing, doing more painting and tweaking, than a photographer. I have not yet entered or uploaded some of my best work. But I am learning and growing from what I have entered. And, I know I can do nothing, having no talent without God. I taught myself pastels, mostly oil and I like realism in them too. I apologize for this dissertation. Promise I won?t every be this long again. Please remain my artist friend and give your helpful info.

I am so very sorry for having offended and insulting you. That was not my intention. It was only an observation, if that is to much for you to take then I again I am sorry.

Once again I am sorry and if it makes you feel any better I will refrain from commenting on you work in the future.

Wow!!! This is amazing. The trees on the right side look so real. I couldn't stop staring at this picture. It's beautiful and it's something my mom would hang up on her wall 100%. I love it! Fantastic job done here! A+++ my friend!
