A really neat folk art piece! Figures are well-depicted, good balance to the work, and the disk in the middle really draws your eye to the faces of the guitarist and man. Of course, the guitarist couldn't really be playing that guitar as there is no amp for it- probably if you wanted to be more realistic, an acoustic guitar might have been better! Still, I love it the way it is. Good luck in the contest.

You have a very distinctive style-strong graphic quality to your work-without knowing what technique you are using it's hard to comment on aspects other than impressions--composition wise this is very interesting-the skin tones could be a bit more natural

beleive me rick..i wish the skin tone could be more natural, however there is no flesh tone color offered in ink (closes thing is peach). so i have to improvise with the colors that are offered. unlike the others here at FAR who can mix their color and paint over any mistakes , ink is a different animal. to shade and highlight you have do the reverse in ink (light colors 1st then dark) compared to painting you can start with dark 1st and then paint light colors over it. as far as the style or technique, well its my own 45 years of trail and error (they dont offer classes that i know of on how to work with ink). i never had any classes wouldnt know how to act..lol... you make a mistake on ink you might as well throw it away and start over again. thats is why i map everything out before applying ink. i do appreciate you taking the time in giving me this great reveiw.

Thanks for letting me know what you use-if you are using water based inks it's very much like using watercolours-have you tried blending your inks to make new colours? I can see how your style is much like work that I did for many years-pen and ink drawings are the same-once you have a mistake it can't be fixed you start over...
I used some french inks for awhile and also Doc Martins to colour my work and found that by experimenting with a combination of red, green and a touch of brown, blue and orange I could get a variety of flesh tones however it also required either using alcohol or water and carefully layering up the sking with a sable brush---I doubt after so long a time a class would change your style a great deal, I still take a class now and then and always learn something new or some new technique-but actually a good art school would indeed have classes in pretty much any medium.
Good luck and keep on keepin on...

oh beleive me if i was using waterbase inks i would be a mixing, however they are the special edition pens i order thru sharpie and Bic. these are a lil more expensive with a larger selection than you would see in the retail stores, i have to buy these online. i appreciate the feedback, thanks.

If they are Copic markers there are techniques that offer very subtle shading-I blieve Copic has several hundred colours so if you arent using them you may want to look into them...
-
copic? cool ill google them adn check them out and i really appreciate the tips(thumbs up)

Your title and storytelling work well here . There is a an innocence about this piece That I like . Your style is uncluttered and somewhat basic in its approach. The facial expression on the guitar player is excellent

I remember as a small boy I attended a Johnny Winter stadium concert, he played a song called Highway 61 Revisited, it was 20 mins long and I loved every second of it. Nice simplistic work and a tribute to the birth place of the blues. The colors are inviting and the subject is great, well done.
