Nicely done, I like the way the background was taken out. that really makes the face of the dog stand out. the lighting is excellent and the mouth open of the dog adds interest. well balanced. thanks for sharing.

This is amazingly, perfectly, incredibly beautiful. At first glance at thumbnail size, I thought it might be a wolf...an animal I respect and love for many reasons. I can now see it is a German Shepard and beautiful one at that. His ears stand perfectly erect and his eyes are intense. It sure makes my pet photos so far pale in comparison. I would not have hesitated to give you 6 stars, but for the description stated no mixed media, but you said you did some sharpening, added the background and frame. I must admit that the minor mixed media you did use is very well done. But it is difficult to know how sharp the original photo was and what it may have looked like w/o background and frame. The tad bit of lighting that shows on Rex's ears and head adds compliment to the overall photo. I have been to Oslo and it was so much colder than Sweden, even though Oslo is at the same general part of Norway as was the area of Sweden I spent most of my time in. Holy cow it was cold, so I understand that oil paints on location could be out of the question. Here's question....do you get the view of the Northern Lights in Northern Norway, as they do in Northern Sweden and we do here? Where I live we can at times see those aurora lights, but not the colorful show seen further north in Alaska. Is this your dog? Thank you for bringing my tired, weary eyes wide awake w/ this awesome photo. Even if one didn't already know how intelligent this breed is, you can see it in Rex.

Thank you for a terrific review and high rating. This image was aqtually very sharp as an original as well. I always resharpen if I do some adjustments with background. Anyway; to your qustion about the northern light. Yes, in the north of Norway you see it all the time. You can also see it further south. Have even watched it in Oslo, but that is rare. Rex is not mine.

Composed and presented well with a lovely centre of interest and a great initial impact. The colour works well and the light is excellent. Focus is crisp and sharp, showing good detail and clarity and the dof is good. Very good level of technique and ability has been shown.

A good dog portrait where composition,exposure ,posture and typical expression usually dogs have come together for an effect.The background is sufficiently diluted so as not to interfere.Very nicely done.
