Nice shot, the black and white was a great choice to show off the variation in the logs and mortar or chinking. Lighting is good and choice of subject is good. I think I may have left a little more of the tree on the right in the image to give a little balance to the shot. Other than that..I think you did a spendid job with it.

the is a very wonderful image you have captured and turned into the black and white image. Your detail is pin sharp and I like the angle for this shot. Great presentation.

The photo is crisp and clean as we'd expect in B&W. And in this case it's the proper way to show what you want to achieve. You achieved it. However, it's a "blah" photo when placed within multitudinous historical photos. But your technique is laudable.

You have done a nice job in capturing the details of the cabin. However I wish you had included a bit more of the foreground to add more depth into the picture.

Very nice story with this...love the history with my pictures...detail is excellent! Lighting is sheer perfection, there is plenty of wonderful textures visible on this ol' piece of history - nicely done...love the use of the B&W too...

This is wonderfully composed. You have also handled the conversion to B&W perfectly. Most fail to appreciate the real beauty of it. Remarkably done. I really like the lines and shapes in this, from the shrubs to the horizontal logs of the cabin and the vertical boards of the door. Wonderful history and an equally wonderful photograph. Thank you for sharing this. Travlin1

Have you ever noticed our cabins are often larger these days, we just have more stuff to keep up with, regardless of how many yard sales I have. I can see the knots in the lumber on the front door. Very well lit detail , no shadow, good high contrast with the brite - bright, very well lighted sky. My guess is the sky was not photo friendly for you but one thing is for sure, you took good advantage of it for the impacting contrast with the roof and roof line. Your time & timing I know and the sky/light timing can be hard. This place endured a lot no doubt. Mortor between the logs looks too darn fresh and bright for my bland taste, just seems a tad to prominent. I am seeing some very nice detail and the XTi 10MP is very capable it appears. You likeing it so far? ...

Yep, not a day goes by that I don't ask myself, 'Why do I think I need all this crap!' This was taken quite early in the AM and the sky was pale blue, no clouds, then as it usually does, sky turned a gorgeous blue when I was long gone!

The mortor, yep, I really think some one is restoring this place.

Yes, thus far I really like the XTi but geez, I have tons, loads, and more tons to learn. I would love to go on a photo shoot every weekend but I just can't---

Question--The salesman told me it is best to delete images from the camera instead of the software----why? I can't really tell if I am deleting the correct one viewing it with the camera and believe me, I got some heavy duty deletin' ta do!!

Thank you so much for your great review Ben, your thoughts are imperative to me!

hiYa Deb,yea I know you can't get out and shoot just anythime you get the urge. I am on a lunch break and getting a bite at my desk, while most others are out gal'ibatting around. We need to talk a few things about you new camera. I have not review the control layout on the XTi and fact is after 2 years I am still looking on my ole D70 to see how to make things work. Anyway 'Deleting pics' at times I stop and delete pics. My lcd display is not as large as yours and i am not always convinced on what to delete. But it is simple, I display the file to delete , push delete buttom on back of camera and puch it again to OK the delete. The saleman's saif it was easier to del pic on camera, I expect he meant that if you don't do it on the camera it will be 1)uploaded to you computer then 2)need to be deleted. If deleted from camera these 2 steps are not needed. But it should not be much of an issue either way.
On you cabin photo, I actully took another peek at it earlier today. I was thinking I was incorrect about the sky, it was not bright overcast. It was brighter after the BandW conversion maybe. I expect I do more tweaking than you do and often don't know when to stop. I keep trying to get it right when i pull the trigger but that is a bit iffy most times for me. Back at yo soon. Have a fine weekend and get 'all laid back' when ya get the chance if only for a little while.

Great subject for black and white, all those wonderful bold white lines, the contrasts of textures and different types of wood, and the great lacy limbs lying across the face of the cabin. Fantastic tone and contrasts. I like looking through one window and out the other. I know that I've told you before that I love old things. I like the fact that you can see where the builders hands have touched and that you can feel the energy of all the history that such places and things hold. I think that is why these old building have so much more character because they were actually created by someone, someone who left their own impression on these walls just as you have left your own touch and style on this image. Lovely.

Yes, old is a great thing, unless it is me looking back at me--yep, I love the personal touch and the TLC that used to be put into building a home. My Grandfather was a homebuilder/cabinet maker and you could just see and feel the passion he put into his work. Thank you so much gray horse for this super review, I greatly appreciate your time!
