I will certainly try this at home thank you for sharing your techniques. The result seems effortless. Everything about this picture seems right to me from the room it was taken in to the sepia like tone of the lighting.

This is wonderful. I don't know how you did it but the effort was definitely worth it. The translucence on both sides is gorgeous. I like the look, or color of the picture. This is so special. Excellent technique.

Initial Impact - 5
as soon as i opened this one, i wanted to see more and find out how it was done.

Creativity - 5
this is not something i have ever considered, nor seen done and it shows an interest to explore different ideas and techniques.

Colour Harmony - 4

I personally find the piece lacking in colour, although that may have been intentional. it is not a technical thing as there is nothing clashing, i just find it muted.

Center of Interest - 5
the COI is doing its job here and is hold my eye to see more. the background and foreground are complimenting and telling more of the story.

Technical Excellence - 4.5

this item is a culmination of all the scores and comments.

Technique - 5
i have given this a 5, not because it is perfect, but because i have never seen this technique used and have nothing to really score against. i find it extremely interesting and creative technique.

Story Telling Ability - 5
the artist as given a good verbal description of the piece and the technical settings, but more important to me, the photograph and title tell the whole story. if the blurb had not been there and there were no remarks i would still get the full gist of this piece.

Lighting - 4.5

the reason i give this a 4.5 is i feel a little more light would have brought out more details.

average rating - 4.75 = 95%

Thank you very much for the lovely review and comments. It is not often I get such a thorough review, and I really appreciate it. I do agree about your rating of color and light, but since this technique is new to me as well, this is what I managed to achieve for the being. I will experiment more with this kind of photography, and hopefully I will improve. I usually don't give up easily.

Thank you very much for the lovely review and comments. It means just as much to me as a 6.

Pretty good for a first try, I would say, Annie! I'm certainly not the one to give advice on a shot like this, but it looks good in my eyes! I like the camera off to the side - not quite so sure about the mantle (if that's what it is!) on the other side. :) Have a very Happy New Year!

Thank you very much for the lovely review. Agree about the mantle, but this was the only place in the house I could do this, and it was also the only angle. I could of course have covered it with something.

I can see the hard work. That is fantastic! I don't know why you think it isn't perfect. It see,s to me! I love the warm colors and the ghostly appearance. Fantastic use of light as well. I just wonder how you moved out of the photo without a visible trail of your movement.
It deserve a six, but the site rules won't allow it.
Best luck for the contest!

With a very long exposure you have time to move away. Still I of course try to do this a quick as possible. Thank you very much for the lovely review and comments. So glad you like it.

How long? I never got one without tail, but my subjects won't hold still, guess they are moving to erratically anyway. I usually don't tell that I am taking pictures before they are done because people move more naturally when they aren't aware that the camera is running.

This one was taken in 10 seconds, and after about half time I moved. Quick.
reply by cleo85 on 30-Dec-2011
I tried exposures up to 1 minute but mostly at ballet/dance performances or other nightly celebrations. Never at home.
reply by the author on 30-Dec-2011
I don't know how this would work on a dancer. After all the person being photographed must sit very still, and then move out quicly.
reply by cleo85 on 30-Dec-2011
I know it wouldn't work. That is wile I always have a tail or even ghostly doubles.

This very artistic and unique. I've never heard of this but it makes for an interesting picture. Now we know how they take pictures of ghosts:) How did you not blur your movement when you moved?

Because I was really quick. LOL Just kidding. With such long exposure time it is possible if you move away reasonably fast. Thank you very much for the lovely review and comments.

Perhaps not perfect Annie, but really quite good!

It is always hard for me to provide decent feedback on this kind of an image, borne I suppose out of my own ignorance about how this is done. On an emotional level, for me it has drama that involves the photographer, camera and image that is translucent.

The lighting is well done. The only thing that might be off (for me at least) is whatever is in the lower left is slightly distracting without adding anything to tyne image.

Very nice experiment. I hope to see more and learn from it.
